马丁·弗瑞曼透露《办公室》创作背后:并非全然无即兴

Martyn Freeman, the lead actor in the British TV show 'The Office', has revisited an old topic recently in a BBC anniversary special, sparking some controversy. His concerns were directed towards the creators of the show, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. The debate revolves around an age-old question – did the show include any improvisation? This 2001 sitcom, which emulates a documentary style, follows the daily life of a paper company in Slough. Many viewers believed the lines were spontaneously delivered by the actors due to the natural and candid performance, but Gervais and Merchant have repeatedly denied this claim. However, in BBC's new documentary 'Remember… The Office', Freeman felt that the narrative was incomplete. In conversation with his co-star Mackenzie Crook, Crook mentioned that 'Another common question is about the amount of improvisation – actually, it was very little; everything was written on the script.' Following this, Freeman elaborated, 'Yes, it's all on the script. But my real feeling is that after the show became so popular and it seemed so improvised, Ricky and Stephen decided to say 'No, there was none,' and I understand that. What really irked Freeman was another matter: the published script collection featured not the original scripts, but the transcriptions of the aired content. 'Anyone who knows us can see that that line was thought of on the spot, that one was improvised,' he said, calling it 'loose performance.' He emphasized that while the scripts were outstanding and not improvised, he was willing to label it as 'loose'. Freeman highlighted his understanding of the creators' protective instincts, saying 'Otherwise, people would say 'Oh, you just make up words on the spot,' which is obviously not true.' He concluded by noting, 'The script was excellent – but anyone who knows us or understands the filming process knows that we were also in character. This doesn't mean it's collaborative writing, nor is it improvisation; it's just loose.' Ricky Gervais, who did not participate in the July 8th special airing on BBC Four and iPlayer, told The Independent that he has 'always' communicated with the BBC about the show. 'The Office' has also been remade for an American audience, with Steve Carell as the lead. Carell recently revealed that due to the excellent reputation of the British version, Paul Rudd once tried to persuade him not to audition.
